Parents hunting for Iron

We who have founded Mini Ferrum are a family living in Helsingborg, Sweden. When our daughter Nea was born in the spring of 2020, we quickly realized the importance of iron-rich food for her cognitive development. We have always been very interested in nutrition, and now we had a new little project to tackle: the hunt for iron! We flipped food packages to study the iron content and soon realized that it was difficult to find a good long-term option, partly because of the amount of iron in food, but also because of the contents in many iron-rich foods; sugar, glucose, gluten and various additives... It didn't feel quite right for us.

An idea is born

We concluded that there probably wasn't an easy, health-conscious and effective way to ensure babies or toddlers receive the right amount of iron on a daily basis. What if we could create such a product for our daughter, the product we were missing? How many other parents could benefit from it as well? Right then and there, the seed for what later became MINI+ was planted. With feedback from a pediatric nutritionist who researches in iron deficiency in children, we created our heme-iron powder for kids. Our daughter Nea has been eating MINI+ in her porridge or pancakes almost every day since we created our own lifehack, and now her little brother Augustus (born in 2023) does too. Smooth sailing it is!

A third of all women are believed to be iron deficient in some way

When Marlén became pregnant with our son, she needed iron supplements during her pregnancy. After previous negative experiences with iron supplements, we instead tried developing a stronger heme-iron powder, which was used to bake bread and Swedish chocolate raw balls with. It tasted good, the hemoglobin value at the maternal care clinic rose, and her stomach was completely unaffected—a true win-win!

After some self-study, we realized that iron deficiency is a bigger issue for many women both in Sweden and in the Nordic than we initially thought, with up to a third of women of childbearing age suffering from low iron levels or iron deficiency—experiencing vague symptoms like fatigue, brain fog and poor memory. Pregnant women also need more iron, of course, as do blood donors. We believe there are many who would benefit from an iron supplement that is gentle on the stomach and easy for the body to absorb. Therefore, it was an easy choice and a natural step for us to develop Feméa - specially designed for women's iron needs.

The work on launching yet another exciting new iron supplement product is already underway. We have a plethora of ideas for more upcoming iron-enriched products - but we are also open to more thoughts and suggestions! Is there anything you think would have helped you in your daily life against iron deficiency or low iron levels? If so, please do get in touch!

We are also very curious about your experience with heme-iron powder, so please feel free to write to us at [email protected] or visit us on  Facebook or Instagram. We are eager to hear from and grateful for all kinds of feedback!
