AN EASY WAY TO FOLLOW THE NORDIC NUTRITION RECOMMENDATIONS

Children need to get plenty of iron every day, especially between 7-11 months of age when the need is greatest. From the age of 1, a child should consume 7 mg of iron daily, which is equivalent to the amount of iron in 1 kilogram of broccoli! But why is iron so important? Iron is vital for the normal development of the brain, making it essential to follow the guidelines for iron intake.

Despite a varied diet, it can sometimes be a challenge for a small child to get enough iron, as their needs are nearly equivalent to those of an adult man and between 7-11 months, the demand is even higher

For health-conscious parents, MINI+ is an easy aid along the way. Our heme-iron powder consists of carefully selected high-quality ingredients. It is gluten-free, with no added sugar and free from additives. Additionally, it is based on the best source of iron, heme-iron. Our heme-iron comes from hemoglobin powder (from bovine). You can read more about the contents of MINI+ here!

EASY TO BLEND WITH ALMOST ALL FOODS

MINI+ can be mixed into almost any food. Check out our recipes that you can find here to get some inspiration. As long as it is correctly dosed (1-2 scoops per meal), the taste impact is minimal and hard for a little one to notice. There is always some food that can be enriched with iron, even for the pickier children. Feel free to read other parents' experiences with heme iron powder here!

HEALTH-CONSCIOUS IRON FORTIFICATION

Many iron-fortified products today are often ultra-processed with questionable ingredients such as gluten, apple juice concentrate, maltodextrin, corn starch, etc. In "regular" foods, it can sometimes be a bit difficult to find all the iron needed. It is possible, absolutely, but iron-rich sources are often necessary in most cases. Heme-iron powder is a new type of iron source and therefore another iron-rich alternative for parents. The more iron-rich sources there are, the better, right?

Additionally, when it comes to non-heme iron, meaning iron from foods that do not come from the animal kingdom, many other foods can inhibit the absorption of this type of iron, such as grains and legumes (phytates). In classic iron-rich foods like liver pâté, blood pudding/sausage or blood-breads, it's also common to find various combinations of gluten, sugar, and additives that may not feel very health-conscious or that you want your child to eat every day.

DIFFICULT TO OVERDOSE SINCE 1 SCOOP = 1 MG OF IRON

We have made it as simple as possible. Too much iron can also be harmful. Therefore, our dosages are carefully developed with the help of a researcher/scientist who is an expert on iron, ensuring that our recommendations are safe and have good safety margins. These recommendations are also set with consideration for overall dietary intake, and one should never exceed the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations for daily iron intake. Moderation is always best! However, our experience is that it is quite rare for this to become a problem. As mentioned, it can be a bit difficult to ensure children get enough iron in a good way.

WHY IS IRON SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT?

It is vital for cognitive development. Research has shown that a deficiency of iron early in life can lead to learning difficulties and behavioral disorders in school age* and who would want to risk that?

If iron deficiency is noticeable in a child, the deficiency is likely quite advanced, and cognitive development may be affected even before that. It’s a difficult problem to detect but very easy to prevent simply by following the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations. This can be done in many ways, both with and without heme-iron powder. It's always important to have a varied diet. With MINI+, everyone can vary their diet according to their preferences and still enrich it with iron easily and health-consciously!

THE CREATORS OF MINI+

We are just two Swedish parents of young children, sharing our life hack that we developed in our quest for iron for our daughter. We want to move away from outdated and ultra-processed foods to something more health-conscious while still being simple and easily accessible for children. We work with the highest quality ingredients and use organic whenever possible. We strongly believe that our product can provide a more health-conscious and iron-rich childhood, thereby contributing to healthy cognitive development in more children. This is something we are passionately committed to!

Warm regards,
